About

Gates open at 3.45pm, programme starts at 4.15pm. The arrival time gives children the opportunity to connect with one another and explore their environment before the session commences. This is a 9 week term. Term 2 dates: 15 Apr to 17 Jun 2026 (9 weeks) No session on 27 May 2026 (Hari Raya Puasa) Hornbills is where children really start to push their boundaries. For children aged 6.5 to 8.5 years, this programme is built around challenge, capability and growing independence. Children work with real tools, manage real fires, build real structures and take on physical challenges that develop strength, coordination and self-belief. They work towards their campfire and knife licenses, demonstrating genuine competence in two of Forest School's most important skill areas. They take responsibility for specific areas of the Wildlings gardens and collaborate on group projects where rules matter and teamwork is essential. Delivered by qualified Level 3 Forest School Practitioners across our private 1.25 acre nature space at Dempsey and the wider heritage area beyond, Hornbills is a long-term outdoor education programme. Sessions are shaped by the children, the environment, seasons and cultural events. Our leaders respond to the group's interests and introduce new challenges based on their observations. The value builds over time as children develop competence, friendships and a genuine connection with the land and their Forest School community. Hornbills regularly hike to our secret forest den, get out across the Dempsey fields for nature and heritage walks, geocaching, orienteering and compass work. What your child will experience: - Campfire and knife license progression - Fire lighting, campfire cooking and wilderness skills - Shelter building, knot tying and construction projects - Tool use, woodworking and skilled making - Ecology, wildlife study and garden stewardship - Team games with rules, physical challenges and adventurous play - Nature and heritage walks, geocaching and orienteering Session structure: Arrival and connection, time to connect with one another and explore their environment > Check-in and team challenges or games > Guided activities based on the children's interests, with new experiences introduced by leaders based on their observations > Closing circle and reflection This term families are invited to our end-of-term party and our annual Community Festival. In other terms we run family socials such as laser tag (Term 1) and raft building (Term 3). Returning Forest School families receive a 10% loyalty discount. Sibling discount: 15% off a second, third or fourth child when one child is enrolled at full or loyalty rate. Our team is first aid trained, child safeguarding certified, and led by qualified Forest School Practitioners. Wildlings is a five-time Expat Living Readers' Choice Award winner.
